"Sensitive Santa"
All the brights lights and loud music doesn't bring everyone joy during the holidays. Particularly autistic children who go to visit santa aren't always happy to do so.
A shopping mall in Swift Current, west of Regina, partnered with Saskatchewan Families for Effective Autism Treatment, have come up with a solution. After the stores are closed and the lights were dimmed, "Sensitive Santa" came out to sit down with the children and have a quiet conversation.
"Sensitive Santa" is a non-smoker, with fresh breath, who doesn't use after-shave," says Arden Fiala.
Fiala is the president of the organization, and she helped organize the Santa event on December 9th.
Santa was very aware of the needs of the kids and used a quiet voice while speaking, letting the children take the lead.
The organization was open to all children who preffered a quiet visit with Santa. The Sensitive Santa event is already set up to take place next year. This idea should spread throughout the nation because this event is truly meaningful and will make a difference in children's lives.
